Descripción de Women helping women, the tale of an HPV researcher, with Kate Cuschieri pja
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections worldwide. Although it is easily preventable through vaccination, chronic HPV infections still cause most cervical cancer in women, with 350,000 deaths in 2022. HPV-related oropharyngeal (throat) cancers are increasing, especially in men, and HPV-related anal cancers are increasing in both women and men. In this episode of “Esto va de Micro”, Kate Cuschieri, Director of the Scottish HPV Reference Laboratory (NHS Lothian), talks to us about HPV, future HPV research trends, how lab waste is a Sustainable Development problem, and her relationship with science as a woman. This episode was produced by Nuria García de la Camacha, Carolina Lizarazu, Gabriel Muñoz, and Alicia Olivares, and was mentored by Richard Williams. Final music: Audionautics. Falling Sky. https://audionautix.com/Music//FallingSky.mp3 5p2s4o
