Clouds by Liquid heads straight into a hall of mirrors, sinister clowns cackling over your shoulder just before the floor drops out and the journey really begins. Wading through jelly entrails, this weird and wobbling techno is strangely comforting and unnerving, like a Brother's Grimm tale, knowing that whatever the outcome will be for your own good. For the first part is a chilled and chilling stroll through the woods with only the occasional reminder as it happily meanders along. The addition of Florian Kruse's Be Active even briefly trips to the White Isle for some afternoon sun. However, the wistful winter dreaming is soon dispelled by Voices of the Dead by Ascii Disko, which storms in and leaves deep track marks like a monster truck. After which you're left paralysed, unable to do nothing but let the rest of the mix just have its way, wrapping around, permeating within, wrenching you stomach and enrapturing your senses like an ravenous Eastern bloc vampire. Shrill and festering monster techno at it most macabre, Darren C has crafted yet another timely bag of treats that should make Ultraplay's 5 year anniversary this Halloween a sin-soaked rampage of devilish fun."
