(no wonder we want to secure the data) -- IoT and Wearables Track things our bodies, our locations, how many steps weíve taken and where, what our heart rate is, blood pressure and more. Most of these devices come with GPS sensors, motion sensors, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. -- Secure at the device transmission level and at the service level. Microsoft Secure Development Lifecycle (SDL) - Azure for IoT - SDL is a software development process that helps developers build more secure software and address security and privacy compliance requirements which also helps reduce development costs -- SDL is made up of seven phases, including training for developers and program managers in the foundational concepts, building secure software that protects privacy, and responding to security and privacy incidents when they occur. ** Phases: Response, Release, Verification, Implementation, Design, Requirements and Training. Amazon Cloud for IoT Amazon Web Services provides tools to protect data in transit, and at rest. AWS provides Identity and Access Management (IAM) to control who accesses data, a Secure Token Service (STS), built in encryption on all of our storage options, services for key rotation, Amazon Cognito for securing your mobile infrastructure, and hardware security modules for tamper-resistant key storage. AWS also provides protected, monitored, and secured facilities where your data is stored so you can increase your data security while moving to the cloud. - Do we need standards to ensure data is secured? IoT - Securing your Personal Data 1) Don't include any peronsonaly id'able info on your wearable. 2) Unique Complex (no brainer, but had to be said) 3) Turn of Wi-fi and Bluetooth when not needed to sync. 4) Example permissions of Apps when installed, data collection could be one of them 5) Social Sharing - Be cautious! Where is the Real Money in the IoT? **Services that pull and house the data! **IoT standards are in flux, some very complex, but there will always be data **Gartner projects IoT will add $1.9 trillion in value to businesses **Vertical integration of sensors with business services will dominate IoT AoT or Analytics of Things **Connecting inanimate objects and sensors to the Internet is only the first step **The term AoT points to the fact that IoT devices generate a lot of data that must then be analyzed to be useful. "- Pattern recognition?identifying patterns and developing statistical models that explain variations - Anomaly detection?identifying situations that are outside of defined boundaries, such as a temperature that is too high or the presence of an individual in an area that should be uninhabited - Predictive asset maintenance?detecting potential problems in machinery before they occur - Optimization?optimizing automated processes, such as cutting logs at a lumber mill or calibrating machinery in a factory - Prescription?recommending the best course of action for a given situation, often for front-line workers, as when weather and soil sensing is used for ?prescriptive planting? by farmers - Situational awareness?piecing together seemingly disconnected events and explaining them, as when a series of oil temperature readings in a car, combined with dropping fuel efficiency, indicate it?s time for an oil change" Parts List 1. C101 47: Santa's Little Helper - Bonus!
Host: Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ Guest: Lou Maresca The Code for today's show will be available within 24 hours: MS Open Sources the Halo Framework! Earlier this week, Microsoft announced that they would be contributing "Project Orleans" to their open-source initiative. Project Orleans is built on .NET - "Project Orleans" is the framework that powers "Halo 4" and is used extensively in the Azure cloud - It's REALLY good at scaling - Based on the "Actor Model" -- Concurrent computing objects that can communicate with one another - Unlike Classes... "Orleans Actors" are automatically instantiated and they ALWAYS exist. The Open Sourcing will be available by early 2015 - Microsoft Research will release the code under an MIT license - Posted on GitHub MVVM In 2004, Martin Fowler published an article about a pattern named Presentation Model (PM). MVVM is identical to Fowler's Presentation Model, in that both patterns feature an abstraction of a View, which contains a View's state and behavior. Fowler introduced Presentation Model as a means of creating a UI platform-independent abstraction of a View, whereas John Gossman introduced MVVM as a standardized way to leverage core features of WPF to simplify the creation of interfaces. In that sense, I consider MVVM to be a specialization of the more general PM pattern Since 2005, MVVM has become more general and more frameworks . C101 45: Santa's Little Helper 2/3
Host: Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ Guest: Lou Maresca Using APIs to scrape product information from websites. The Code for today's show is available below: Santa's Little Helper 2/3 Computing into Human Territory Software has advanced to the point at which event predicting & brute-force recall is better than humans IN THE SMALL SCALE -- Deep Blue in 1997 beating Garry Kasparov Now a team has developed a machine that can out-duel humans in the extraction and catag of data IN THE LARGE SCALE. * A team of researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, led by Christopher Re, a professor at the University, have created a computer that can extract data from scientific publications and place it in a database with tens of thousands of studies. * This has been VERY difficult for conventional computers to do, because while they can parse data more quickly than the human mind, the categorization of so many studies, all of which their own style of organization, has been borderline impossible. Example: * The human mind just understands the connection between the space program and the manufacturing of liquified gasses. -- For a computer, unless there has been an existing correlation made to connect the two, that connection will not be made. The New machine is called "PaleoDeepDive" * It is looking at all the data that has been manually entered into the Paleobilogy Database -- That repository is the destination of data from the NSF (National Science Foundation) and many international organizations. ** Ultimately, this is a boon for "Big Data Mining" of disparate scientific sources. Ivory Tower our 4 steps for developing an app: 1. Break down the functions of the app. 2. Gather resources: What services/APIs are availible for my app? 3. Code Warrior Lets build a provider against one of the Retailer API's! 1) Construct a common base class that designates exactly what you want it to do. (e.g. GetPriceById, GetPriceFromUrl) 2) Review the API Documentation and provide a REST Query to create the search. - This will be using a base class we created called "UrlEncodingParser" that will all us to construct a URL Query String for each REST search and strongly type it. 3) Build a simpe query and test it out. You get a large JSON blob back and it is easier to use if it is strongly typed. - Using tools like Fiddler, Visual Studio Debugger, we can extract the JSON blob and build a strongly typed version of it in .Net using www.JsonUtils.com You can find the Best Buy AP here The JSON Utility we demonstrated on the show is here Get in Touch With Us! * Subscribe and get Coding 101 automatically at TWiT.tv! * Follow PadreSJ on Twitter. * Watch the show live and the chatroom every Thursday at 1:30pm PST. * Email us at [email protected] . * our Google+ Community! Host: Fr. (the ability to call on multiple servers at once to complete a page load.) In a Nutshell: * COWL uses "confinement" -- which has been around since the 70's but is difficult to implement when we have the need for data from multiple sources. * If a Javascript requests information from the computer or another website, that data transfer will be allowed * But then the application (script) that has received the information is prohibited from sharing it with unauthorized parties. * The information can come in... but it can't get out unless it's going to an application that is expressely allowed by the system. Ivory Tower In the last episode, we talked ing APIs to access information on Google's Servers. -- If we were to put this in the context of the MVVM model. (Model View View Model), we worked on the Model. -- Our code allowed the model to access external data and bring it into the program. ** Today, we need to play with the ViewModel -- The part of the program that's going to put that external data into a format that is useful and determine WHAT data will be useful to the "View" MVVM Rehashed! * This is how the "MVVM" (Model View ViewModel) pattern works The "Model" * An object that contains all the data and information that we have to use. * It can also contain the API's that are necessary to GET the data and information that we have to use. * In a App... the "Model" is our bridge to the outside world The "ViewModel" * This is the "interface" between the Model and the View * This is the piece that introduces "Presentation Separation" -- It gets to decide which data from the model is place in the View -- It gets to decide which input from the view (from the ) is pushed back to the Model The "View" is the UI: It's the later that the interacts with. -- Some call it the "presentation" -- The View can tak the data and information contained within the "Model" object and organize it in order to make it more presentable to the ** In MVVM, the "View" is 'active' -- That means that is "aware" of the "Model" -- It can change and reorganize depending on the data that is in the "Model" Let's talk about "Data Binding" * In it's most simple form, "data binding" is programming to establish some sort of connection between the UI and the "Business Logic" or data * We "BIND" because we want the UI to change depending on what's happening with the Data. ** In our example... we want the UI to represent the data that is being pulled and prepared Get in Touch With Us! * Subscribe and get Coding 101 automatically at TWiT.tv! * Follow PadreSJ and Snubs on Twitter. * Watch the show live and the chatroom every Thursday at 1:30pm PST. * Email us at [email protected] and [email protected]. * our Google+ Community!
