To circle back (to something) = to return to (a location) or to revisit (a conversation or a discussion) > If we don’t finish planning next year’s budget today, we can circle back to it next week.

To make off with = to take away, to steal. Bernie Madoff, the swindler, con artist, scammer, schemer, fraudster etc. made off with billions of dollars.

Cookie-cutter = lacking in originality; something that’s identical to other things. > Over the past 30 years, the American landscape has become littered with cookie-cutter franchises making it more standardized and less unique.

Umpteen = many, a lot of. > I’ve told you umpteen times that you need to pronounce the “s” in the 3rd person singular…but sadly, you still don’t.

“Let that sink in” = an expression we use right after a statement in order to communicate how surprising, profound or consequential the information is. > Your English will get MUCH better if you listen to Crosby’s 9. Let that sink in!

To cut out = to eliminate, remove, stop eating. > If you cut out sugar, you would have healthier teeth.

The tables have turned = when a situation has become the opposite of what it used to be. > In the US, people are now buying more vinyl records than CD’s. The tables have turned.
EPISODE 150: “PEACE OF MIND” 
To give someone a piece of your mind = to tell someone what you think when you’re angry about their behavior. > My car has broken down for the third time this month. I’m going to give my mechanic a piece of my mind!
EPISODE 149: “CERTAIN RULES RULE” 
Pet peeve = something that particularly annoys you. What’s your top pet peeve? Loud chewing? Talking during a movie?
EPISODE 148: “Expecting the Inevitable”

To drive away = to force somebody to leave by making a situation unattractive / unpleasant. > The city’s high taxes are driving local investors away.
EPISODE 147: “RISE AND SHINE”
To call on someone = to ask a person to speak. > I don’t know the answer, so I hope the teacher doesn’t call on me.
EPISODE 146: “I MISS YOU”   Is it just me or…? = A rhetorical question in order to find out if other people agree with your opinion. > Is it just me, or is it freezing in here?
EPISODE 145: "SEEING IS BELIEVING"
I’ll believe it when I see it” = something you say when you will only believe that something happens or exists if you actually see it. A: John says he’s going to help us clean the house. B: Yeah, right. I’ll believe it when I see it!”
EPISODE 144: "SHOP TILL YOU DROP"
To shop around = to compare prices/look for the lowest price. Don’t buy the first item you see; it’s better to shop around.
143: PEANUTS!
Peanuts = very little money. > I refuse to work for peanuts.
EPISODE 142: "ARGENTINA, WORLD CHAMPIONS"
Fair and square = in an honest, clear and fair manner. > Argentina won the match fair and square, so why is there uproar?
EPISODE 141: "THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS"
Expression: Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. = Don’t question the value of a gift. > A: Thanks for the gift B, but I prefer black socks. B: Hey! Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth!!
EPISODE 140: "GRATITUDE"
To bounce back (phrasal verb): to quickly return to a normal condition after a difficult situation / event. > After losing their last four games, the Chicago Bears bounced back and won their next three. (Wishful thinking!)
