Jesus taught us how to leave the grave and live again.

Fear Holding You Down? How to Get Up!
Let me tell you something I don’t like itting—I’ve let fear stop me.
Fear kept me silent when I should’ve spoken up.
Fear kept me still when I should’ve stepped out.
Fear kept me anxious when I should have experienced Peace, Joy, & Love.
Fear kept me in PARK when I should have been in DRIVE.
And I know I’m not the only one.
We all have our reasons—our own private “what-ifs” that loop in our minds like broken records.
What if this fails?
What if I’m not enough?
What if they judge me?
Fear doesn’t always shout—it often whispers. And if we’re not careful, we start believing the lies.

You’ve heard fear, too.
Fear of rejection: What if they leave?
Fear of failure: What if I blow it?
Fear of the unknown: What if it all falls apart?
And here’s what happens: Fear convinces us to stay in the grave… rather than live out BOLD FAITH.

We stop applying.
We stop dreaming
We stop trusting.
We stop rising.
Fear whispers… and it talks us out of getting up.
But what if fear didn’t get the final word? What if your life could be powered by something greater?

Let’s look at someone who stared fear in the face and didn’t back down: Jesus.
Not the calm, halo-glowing Jesus from Sunday school art—but the Jesus who was fully human, feeling every pressure, every emotion, every fear we face.
Scene: The Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36–46)
It’s the night before the crucifixion. Jesus knows what’s coming. Pain. Betrayal. Death. And He’s not unaffected.
He began to be sorrowful and troubled… Then He said to them, ‘My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.’ (Matthew 26:37–38)
We sometimes don’t really get Jesus… We read these words but think…
Yeah but He is the Son of God…
He must’ve had a different kind of pain—less fear, less struggle, less anxiety than we do.
Did He really feel this way?
I have trouble attributing the word FEAR to Jesus… but if there is a moment where you might use fear to describe his emotional state…
Troubled, Sorrowful, Overwhelmed, to the point of Death!
What picture of Jesus is in your mind?
Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” (Matthew 26:39)

Jesus did not deny how He felt.
Jesus didn’t fake bravery.
Jesus was honest.
…But what ?
-We often deny how we feel. (Especially people of Faith!) (Blessed and highly favored)
-We often fake bravery.
-We often are not honest about what is going on inside and around us.

Back to Jesus… This story is surprisingly useful for us.
Jesus goes through it.
Jesus does not avoid what is coming.
Jesus does not have his prayer answered.
Jesus does in fact experience the worst…
In order to be successful, you must learn how to GO THROUGH SOME THINGS.
Three things Jesus did to RISE from fear:
1. He FACED the Fear, Not the Exit
Jesus didn’t run from the moment—He walked straight into it. He didn’t avoid the garden. He went there on purpose. Why?
Because He knew:
You can’t rise if you always run.
Some of us are stuck because we keep avoiding the hard thing. But Jesus shows us—facing fear is where strength begins.
Your worry does not mean you are weak.
Facing the trouble makes us triumphant.
2. He PRAYED His Pain, Not Just His Plans
Jesus didn’t pretend to be okay.
-He spoke to his friends like he was troubled..
-He prayed like He was troubled…
“My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
Matthew 26 says Jesus prayed this 3 times…

If you have never yelled a prayer… you haven’t ever gotten real.
Father… is there any way… take this… stop this… heal this…
But then He added: “Yet not my will, but yours.”
Too often, we ask God to take away our Pain and make our Plans succeed, yet we seldom pray for the courage to be Pressed and Perfected.
We should pray our pain, and not just our plans.
It is ok to pray that the situation changes… but we MUST pray that we CHANGE.
Jesus does this at the Garden of Gethsemane.
Gethsemane – Oil Press
Pressure produces.
Squeezing olives – Olive oil used in anointing oil.
The squeezing pressure of life produces power in our life.

He FACED the Fear, Not the Exit
He PRAYED His Pain, Not Just His Plans
3. He Let LOVE Be Greater Than FEAR
Jesus didn’t push through the cross because He enjoyed suffering. He did it because of love.
(Hebrews 12:2)
What was that joy? You. Me. Us.
A different MOTIVATION
Fear said, “Run.”
Love said, “Stay.”
Check your motivation.
Ask yourself “Why do I want to…”
Your brain might answer “When you are afraid that…”
Stop living under a fear motivation.

2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV):
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid (fearful), but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.”
Power to move forward.
Love to lead the way.
Self-discipline to do what’s right, even when it’s hard.
The Spirit gives:
Three things Jesus did to RISE from fear:
1. He FACED the Fear, Not the Exit
2. He PRAYED His Pain, Not Just His Plans
3. He Let LOVE Be Greater Than FEAR
So let me ask you:
What fear has been holding you down?
Where have you been letting fear call the shots?
What if today was the day you stopped letting fear lead?
You can’t always stop feeling fear—but you don’t have to obey it anymore.
You can rise.
We are not a community of fearless people. We’re a community of rising people.
People who’ve known fear—but are learning to rise through it.
Some of us were afraid to love again—but we chose healing.
Some of us were afraid to trust—but we stepped into community.
Some of us were afraid to believe—but we opened our hearts to Jesus.
And if you’re skeptical—if you’ve been burned by religion or disappointed by people claiming faith—I get it. This isn’t about blind belief. This is tested truth.
Fear will always hold you down—but love, real love, raises you up.
So let’s rise—together.
CALL TO RISE
1 Call it Out – Name your fear. Say it out loud. Write it down. Bring it into the light.
-Fear loses power when it’s exposed.
2 Change Your Motivation – From fear to Love!
Don’t act out of fear of failure—act out of love for what’s possible.
Make love your driver, not insecurity.
3 Take One Bold Step RIGHT NOW
-Worship, pray, forgive,
-Pray your pain
